Chocolate Avocado Shake

Chocolate Avocado Shake

This creamy, wholesome chocolate shake is completely dairy-free, using ripe avocado for its smooth, velvety texture instead of ice cream. If dairy isn’t off-limits, feel free to swap in low-fat milk and your favorite semisweet or bittersweet chocolate chips for an equally delicious treat.

                         WHY YOU'LL LOVE THIS RECIPE
This dairy-free chocolate shake gets its rich, creamy texture from avocado.
The avocado adds heart-healthy fats for a nutritious boost, while maple syrup brings natural sweetness that you can easily adjust to suit your taste.

Ingredients

1/2x | 1x | 2x

Original recipe (1X) yields 2 servings

  • 1 ripe avocado, halved and pitted

  • 1 ½ cups unsweetened vanilla almond milk or other nondairy milk

  • 3 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder

  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar or maple syrup, or to taste

  • 2 tablespoons nondairy semisweet chocolate chips, melted (see Tip)

  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract, or to taste

  • 12 ice cubes

Directions

  1. Blend the base:
Scoop the avocado into a blender. Add almond milk, cocoa powder, brown sugar (or maple syrup), melted chocolate, and vanilla extract. Blend on high until completely smooth and creamy.

  2. Add the ice:
Add ice cubes and blend again until the shake is thick, frosty, and smooth.

  3. Serve immediately:
Pour into two glasses and enjoy right away for the best texture.

Tip:
To melt chocolate chips, microwave them in a small bowl on Medium (50% power) for 1 minute. Stir, then continue microwaving in 20-second intervals, stirring each time, until fully melted and smooth.
